In 1994, a 29 year-old programmer from the University of Helsenki in Finland named Linus Torvalds designed a operating system that he named Linux as a hobby. He distributed Linux to his friends and his friends gave it to there friends and so on. Linus got a lot of suggetions on how he could improve Linux. He took the suggestoins and improved how Linux worked. As Linux got bigger and better more people started to use it.

Linux's complicated interface it is not used by many of the general public. Most Linux systems are used for businesses and for people who are very good at computers, this is because it is so complicated that the average person would not be able to use Linux they would much rather use the more easier point and click interface of the Windows systems. A lot of businesses are useing Linux because of it's low cost.
