Trichotillomania Trichotillomania is a term coined by a French dermatologist in 1889 to describe the compulsive or irresistible urge that he saw in patients to pluck their hair out. She is on medication for this which she asked me not to mention in my paper. I have witnessed many episodes of this first hand. I have watched her pull chunks of hair out at different times. This disorder is under estimated, I feel that more needs to be said about "trich".
