drug haloperidol was introduced in 1961 to treat Tourette syndrome. Haloperidol has become the drug of choice among patients because it suppresses the symptoms. Some side effects of haloperidol include sedation, loss of motivation, depression, and phobias.
The outlook for patients with Tourette syndrome is favorable because of early diagnosis and effective treatments. Psychological problems may arise from rejection and ridicule by peers, teachers, parents, and others, which may be prevented with early intervention and treatment.
