Anne Sexton was born Anne Gray Harvey on the 9th day of November 1928 in Newton, Massachusetts. She was a very disturbed poet whom wrote of her experiences with depression and mental illness. Sexton, a confessional poet, was an internationally known figure. Although this is true not all critics were positive. In fact they felt she bared too much in her poetry. pig in a trench coat I grew." One image that is used vividly in Sextons poetry is the word rat. The rat is a "destructive yet vital animal that dwells inside of her and is only removable by God". Anne's favorite statement was " Rats live on no evil star" because it is a palindrome which means it reads the same right to left and left to right. Sexton is noted for the use of palindromes.
