This is one of the greatest poems ever written in history. It is set in a very gothic scene with eerie emotions encircling it. at. They way this character in the poem never looses hope is more of determination to me then insanity. He does not want to accept the fact that his lover is gone for ever and so he wishes to hold on to her in his heart, but slowly it drives him mad and causes his death from most probably realizing that she is really gone. If looked at technically, he dies from a heart attack.
