In Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace", we see different tones and attitudes. We can see the attitudes of the characters in the story, especially the main character, Mathilde. His use of description helped to form the characters, especially Mathilde. His omission of detail helped to form the character of Mathilde's husband and his simplistic portrayal of the main point helped to focus solely on the irony of the story.
