…showed last 75 words of 415 total…mirror image or twin..his wife. They both shared the same qualities...they loved animals...and the man was trying to rid himself of these similarities by mutilating the cat, to prove himself as the other. I am suggesting that both readings are correct. Poe's stories are full of pyschoanalytical content, and there is no one true reading. There are probably a myriad of other readings available as well...but these are all I covered.
