of featuring Heracles as the main character, Sophocles allows Deianira and her female chorus to take center stage in a play that reveals much about the female experience, and shows a side of Greek tragedy that is not often seen. Sophocles seems to be an early sympathizer of the trials women must go through; through The Women of Trachis and other plays, he manages to convey the feelings of a voice that is usually silenced.
