Power Corrupts
In the house of Oedipus, everyone gets so infatuated with power that their judgment gets distorted, and they do things that they later regret. Oedipus, Jocasta, and Creon died with no honor or dignity, because they were corrupted by the power they had, and acted selfishly, and greedily. In the book, power was, in a way, a test. If it corrupted you, it led to your downfall. If it did not corrupt you, you prospered.
