that the reader will draw their own conclusions. The idea of God as a social institution is unnatural to some people and thus is understandably difficult to accept. This is why Plato does not come right out and say that man as an individual does not need God, or that society as a whole does. He relies on the reader to make that connection for themselves, putting the emphasis on the reader as an individual.
