When the thirteen colonies simultaneously broke free of England's rule, they had
the same religion, the same language, the same customs, and almost the same laws. They
were struggling against a common enemy. These factors combined to form a sufficiently
strong enough reason to unite them to one another and to consolidate them to one nation.

America is not only that the states have similar interests, a common origin, and a
common language, but that they have also arrived at the same stage of civilization, which
almost always renders a union feasible. In giving the federal government ultimate
authority over state governments, American's created a governmental system that is an
effective policy maker.
