Napoleon Bonaparte is one of the most recognized names in world history, having led France to the control of most of continental Europe. In the following pages, the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte from the Island of Corsica to the title of Emperor of France will be examined.

In December 1799, Napoleon imposed a military dictatorship on France, and filled the position of consul, the most powerful position. For the next 15 years, Napoleon brought both great victory and great loss to the French Empire. From his meager beginnings on the Island of Corsica, no one would have guessed that Napoleon would lead one of the greatest armies in history.
