Revolution. The unification of the colonies, however, was not so obvious. Some colonists strongly opposed the British and rallied in that cause, while others did not agree with the Revolution and thought that it would be better to allow the king to rule them. Therefore, by the eve of the Revolution, the colonists had established a deep sense of identity, and although numerous Americans were united against Britain, many remained loyal to the crown.
