Harrison was born into a working class family in Leeds, his Mother was a housewife and his Father a miner and later a bricklayer. Harrison attended Leeds Grammar School and went on to study Classics at Leeds University. Harrison has had a variety of different careers including being a teacher, a playwright and a journalist. 'passion for language'. He writes in a form of low art but is high art. The poem gives us an insight into how Harrison feels and the poems are written in a simple way giving an idea of what is happening. The language is effective and powerful while at the same way simple and understandable. However sometimes the poem can have words and phrases that appear to have a meaning but really have another meaning.
