Macbeth is a central character in this novel. He is the symbol of bravery and honour. Shakespeare uses Macbeth as a character that evil changes. He goes from a brave and highly respected man into a murderous criminal through no fault of his own but because of fate. This eventually ends up in his death, so for somebody that started off brave and kind his cockiness got the better of him. The witches' predictions were the rise and fall of Macbeth. They sparked his downfall and he couldn't control it so his downfall continued.
