haunted. It is obviously difficult for the man to accept that he was wrong, but
he does admit that the room is in fact haunted. Suddenly he no longer looks
upon the custodians as old people who have heads full of superstition and
stories, but as people who perhaps understand much more about it than he
initially thought, and as people who are much wiser and more
knowledgeable than he is.
