The United States presidential election of 1800 was notable for two reasons. It was the
first time both parties used congressional caucuses to nominate candidates for their tickets,
and it was the first presidential election to be decided in the House of Representatives. The
Democratic-Republicans representative was Thomas Jefferson (then vice president) who was
born on April 13, 1743 in Goochland (now Albemarle) County, Virginia, died on July 4, 1826.

I thought this was a great election. I never knew how intense an election could actually be until
I studied and looked into this one. I'm really glad that I had the opportunity to do this paper. I'm
pleased that Thomas Jefferson won and I think if things were to be done all over again he would be the
winner again.
