and his death came slow but with pride of knowing he had made it to the top. The men who were not shot retreated back down the hill. There was nothing else that could be done. They had lost the battle. At the bottom of the hill Longstreet could see it all happening. Lee told Longstreet that it was his entire fault, but Longstreet would never forgive Lee for sending the troops into that assault.
