The term Jacobite is taken from the Latin word Jacobus, meaning James, so Jacobites are the people committed to the return of the Stuarts in the original form of James VII and II. Jacobitism is a term that brings a myriad of images with it. with the Jacobite cause of restoring the Stuart dynasty back into it's rightful place. However, when the moment to show his allegiance to Scotland came, he allowed his ego to take over. The very basis of Jacobitism, the return to Scotland, was pushed into the background and he went to claim the English crown. Because the Scottish people realised this, they lost hope, inspiration, and therefore, the battle.
