The Iliad is the epic tale of the Trojan War, often told in verse, and composed by the famous Greek poet Homer around the eighth or ninth century BC. This "softening" of the characters is probably due to the movie's younger target audience (teenagers or younger), and to conform to acceptable content (the characters sexualities as described in the book are taboo nowadays) and plotlines. The movie does have correct material in it, such as statues and figurines showed in the Troy scenes that are similar to those described in the book, and consistent with other archaeological finds from the same time period.
