During the presidencies in 1800's of Jefferson and Madison their characterized views as strict constructionists were opposed to the broad constructionist of the Federalists. Jefferson, who after all argument between Hamilton brought the beginning of the two political parties, believed in strict Constitution, was not able to follow his theory efficiently. Each changed their view of the Constitution to either better assist the growth of their nation or themselves. Their extension of the parties was accurate during their terms in office supported by their actions. Jefferson expanded the land and passed trading acts, while Madison declared war in 1812, and passed a bill proved their broad constructionist.
