The original purpose of the constitutional convention was to revise the articles of Confederation. What the founding fathers did was to draw up a new constitution, where the power resided in a strong central government. The ironic thing about this was that, they fought a seven-year revolution to avoid this kind of tyranny and oppression, but this new constitution did not remove any such liberties. their only way of getting funds to the pay national debt was to ask the states for money.
The founding fathers saw that this government was not going to last, so they called for a meeting its sole purpose was to revise the articles of confederation not to abolish them. But they drew a new constitution, one which protected their freedom, and made sure that they were guaranteed life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
