The Battle of Little Big Horn started when the gold rush sent many settlers and prospectors through the Bozeman Trail. This trail crossed the Sioux Territory in the Great Plains region. This provoked conflict between the Sioux and the settlers, who were trying to reach the mining districts. Many of the settlers in search if this gold started to complain about the Indians. When he was being led away gunfire erupted. Sitting Bull and 12 others were killed. During this same time The United States Army began a pursuit of Crazy horse. He finally surrendered in Nebraska on May 6, 1877. In a few months later it was reported that while resisting confinement, he was killed by a solider.
