If the bombs had not been dropped thousands of Americans lives could have been lost in an invasion of Japan. The Americans believed Japan would never surrender. On August 14, 1945, the Japanese surrendered unconditionally and the war in Asia ended. These two bombs quickly made the Japanese surrender and ended the involvement of Americans in World War II.
