Articles of confederation
The Articles of Confederation were the first constitution of the United States. The Articles were in force from March 1, 1781, to June 21, 1788 until the current constitution was adopted. After the Revolutionary War, the committee writing the Articles was wary of a strong central government and decided to give the largest amount of power to the individual states and limited the power of the federal government. During the months that followed, the convention wrote the Constitution of the United States that shared some ideals with the pervious government but gave a lot more power to the federal government. Today, the United States had a much more effective government than it did in the years of the Articles of Confederation.
