From the external landscape of a character, the internal landscape develops. There is a strong connection between the external and internal landscape of a character. In "A Memory" by Eudora Welty, the author uses external and internal landscape from her childhood memories to recreate a child hood fictional world.

The external landscape at the end of the story is very bare. Eudora Welty opens her eyes and see no one on the beach. Everyone had disappeared, as if they had never existed. Internally she wished she was not alone, with life surrounding her. Externally, however, she was alone, and she had recreated a world that no longer existed.
