In the novel 1984 by George Orwell technology has been adapted to be used to spy upon us. There are precedents In the USA that show that many similar techniques are used by such people as the US government and their law enforcement agencies. This can also be seen in such organizations as Airports.

It seems clear to me that we live in a time and a social structure that is fully capable of almost complete observation. The government and many organizations have satellites they can use to look at you. In the time when 1984 was writen such a thing was not even an option. It is conceivable that we have the potential to observe more and clearer then Orwell ever thought possible.
